My Friend is Also in a Midlife Crisis
I just talked to a very close friend of mine over the phone. Without me even mentioning it, he revealed that he was going through a midlife crisis as well. He touched on the most important point I iterated: we now have adult money; it's time to buy some toys! He even brought up how, as a kid, you're not able to obtain the things you really want. Now as an adult with adult money, you can! We are both looking forward to our next years. Although, our knees and our backs aren't what they used to be....
Another important point of discussion he brought is how money can buy you happiness. Well, maybe not quite, but it does help. I remember when I would see a cool shirt, or maybe a cool game, and not buying it because I had to hang on to every penny. Not exactly a happy feeling. Now, I can walk into a local store that sells used shirts and buy an awesome Escape to the Void Sepultura shirt. Not even purchase it for myself, but for a friend of mine. I even thought to myself "Dude! That's a badass shirt! Second best track on that album (after Inquisition Symphony)! Damn, it's not my size! Well, if I can't wear it, one of my buddies has to wear it!" So I bought it. It didn't fit my friend either, but he gave it to his son. We where both pleased.
And that's what adult money can buy you. The satisfaction that both you and your best friend can see someone they deeply care about wearing the most badass Sepultura shirt ever that you just bought. Too bad it wasn't my size. Hahaha!
But don't get carried away! There's no shortage of millionaires who are lonely and miserable. I think the larger point is having adult money with friends and family you deeply care about. Ultimately, it's not really about having money. It's about sharing cool stuff, time, and memories with your friends and family. Never hesitate to buy things for your friends and family (and for yourself) if you've got the money. But it's most important to just simply make time for them and create everlasting memories with them.
